It was the groundbreaker. The first. The original. The O.G. Twenty-five years ago, a new way of tanning began. The fake tan that no longer looked fake. No more would you be asked what product you used. Instead, the conversation might be more like, “Where have you been?” Or, “You look so great!”

Who doesn’t want to look fit, healthy, and vibrant? What we do not want is to look fake, like we are trying too hard, or aged. Natural sunlight makes us feel great in the moment but unfortunately comes with some serious downsides. Besides increasing the risk for a variety of skin cancers, it actually makes you look older. Skin damage causes uneven skin tone and thickening and wrinkling of the skin. While this might not be apparent in our 20s, the effects catch up fast.

Enter Fake Bake Original Self-Tan Lotion. Fake Bake raised the bar for safe tanning with the introduction of its flagship product. Without the use of tanning beds or lying in the sun for hours, a natural, healthy-looking glow could be obtained by anyone. We have gotten smarter and safer.

So how is it that our original product is still so popular? It is an easy-to-use, streak-free, high-payoff product that even the newest self-tanner will love. It is paraben-free, not tested on animals, and free of harsh preservatives. The Original is the longest-lasting product of our entire line. You can gradually build your color so you will not be surprised with tan that’s too dark or a fake orange glow. You are in control! Fake Bake Original produces a gradual tan without an offensive smell. It has a light, pleasant scent that doesn’t overpower. Terms such as “the holy grail” and “fool proof” have been used by reviewers. (We try to stay humble.)

So, ok, we convinced you. You are ready to dive in. But maybe you’re still a little nervous. What first? Where do you start?

First, just remember: exfoliate, moisturize, apply. Feel free to add your favorite beverage to this step as well. We won’t tell. We recommend applying in the evening. Simply exfoliate with our handy Coconut Exfoliating Wipes (or your favorite exfoliator) on those rough patches of the body. We recommend also moisturizing those very same rough spots first too, like knees, elbows, and ankles. Apply the Original lotion with gloves or a mitt in small, circular motions. Don’t be alarmed at the color of the lotion out of the tube, this is the color indicator that will be your friend (more on that in a minute). Let the lotion dry to the touch. Give the product time to do its thing for the next 6-8 hours while you get some zzzzzzzs.

The lotion allows effortless blending and application with the color guard feature. What this means is that the product will be darker upon application. This is a temporary color that makes it easy to see where and how much lotion you are applying. You may notice some color going down the drain when you shower. Not to worry! This is not your tan washing off, but only the superficial application color. When washed away you will then be left with only natural-looking, bronzed skin. Once you get the routine down, you may find that you are ready to layer your tan to build a darker glow by applying for a few consecutive days. Or you may be quite satisfied with your Original tan just as it is. You can customize your look with just one product.

The Original tan can last up to a week. To prolong your tan, we recommend keeping your skin well-moisturized with our Oil-Free Mistifier for long-lasting hydration. This adds vitamin E and aloe in a soothing mist to your now glowing skin. Do be warned, Fake Bake tanning is a little addictive. You may notice feeling just a little extra. Using a tad less makeup.
