No, Fake Bake is against cruelty and mistreatment of animals. We have never (and will never) test our products on animals.
At this time, all but one of our products are vegan friendly. There is only one product which currently contains an animal derived ingredient, and we are currently in the process of removing this ingredient from the formula. The entire line will be completely vegan friendly as soon as possible.

No. The base color of some tanners is green which is used to offset the dreaded orange color. When stored improperly, or when the product reaches the end of its shelf life, the formula can oxidize and turn green. This can be avoided by using your self-tanner within 10-12 months and storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigerate to extend shelf life.
Our products are pleasantly fragranced smelling of tropical, coconut scents. Long gone are the days of the dreaded 'Fake Tan' stench.
While we are not are not aware of any issues with use during pregnancy, we always recommend bringing your tanner to discuss with your doctor to make the best decision for you. No, Fake Bake products do not offer any protection from the sun. We always recommend practicing safe sun: use an appropriate sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays.
All shaving and/or waxing needs to be done at least 24 hours prior to application, or 24 hours after to prevent the tanner showing in your pores.
While it is not necessary, a head-to-toe exfoliation is best for an even tan. Skip the shower entirely with Fake Bake Coconut Exfoliating Wipes, which features an abrasive side that removes dead skin cells, dirt, and makeup. Pre-application exfoliation leaves the skin with a soft, smooth surface and prevents splotchiness and uneven fading.
The answer varies greatly and depends on your aftercare. Keeping your skin hydrated lengthens the life of your tan. Only you can decide your maintenance and upkeep - you are in control! NOTE: DHA is not permanent, so it will fade just as any suntan does. A weekly application is recommended to maintain your color.
It could take up to 15 minutes to dry completely depending on the moisture level in your skin. Be sure you are dry to touch before getting dressed.
Fake Bake recommends wearing dark, loose clothing for up to 8 hours while your tan develops. Until the color guide is washed off, be mindful that a color transfer may occur onto articles of clothing or bedding. For best results in stain removal, machine wash as soon as possible.
The average tan can only last only 5-10 days due to the body's natural ability to shed skin cells. The saltwater in oceans and chlorine in pools will accelerate the fade of your tan. Excessive sweating from vigorous exercise can also diminish your tan. Using a daily moisturizer to hydrate the skin should slow down the skin's regeneration process.
